Iris House History This spacious Queen Anne Victorian was built in 1900 for William H. Haw, who served as Humboldt County Clerk and who also operated a rock quarry. Local builder Henry A. Poland designed and built this house for the Haw family. The building was later used as an office by Dr. Hartloff, a local physician. The building's characteristics include a large Colonial Revival porch with paired Doric columns, stained glass windows, Stick style window frames, a second story faux balcony, and juxtaposed roof line. In the late 1970s Stephen Gordon bought the house and started a mail-order business selling Victorian-era hardware. His mail-order business prospered and Mr. Gordon, founder of Restoration Hardware, opened his first store in Old town Eureka in 1980. In the mid-80s the building was remodeled into the Iris Inn Bed & Breakfast. In April 2004 Donna and Bob Gafford purchased and restored the building to its original character and charm. | Home | Availability |
